From: Universitat Pompeu Fabra Department of Translation and Language Sciences [professorat.dtcl at upf.edu]
Subject: English; Applied Linguistics; Language Acquisition: Tenure-track Professor, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain

University or Organization: Universitat Pompeu Fabra
Department: Department of Translation and Language Sciences
Job Location: Barcelona, Spain
Web Address: https://www.upf.edu/web/traduccio
Job Title: Tenure-track Professor
Job Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; Language Acquisition

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

This is a regular faculty appointment in the area of Second Language
Acquisition (English). Duties include research, knowledge transfer, teaching,
and administrative service. We encourage applications from outstanding
scientists working in the area of English SLA.

Research profile:
 - knowledge of theories and models in the study of language acquisition in
bilingual and multilingual contexts, in a range of situations, including but
not limited to formal instruction, Content and Language Integrated Learning,
informal instruction, and natural contexts, such as Study Abroad;
 - experience in the design of empirical studies in language acquisition from
quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods perspectives;
 - experience in the measurement of language acquisition (comprehension and/or
production skills), data collection, transcription, storage and analysis
(linguistic, cognitive and statistical);
 - familiarity with technological contexts for language acquisition, including
but not limited to collaborative learning environments, game-based instruction
and assessment, resources and applications for classroom use, corpora
resources, intelligent tutoring systems, and/or educational data mining;
 - communicative skills for transferring research outcomes to the academic
community as well as society at large.kk

While pursuing their own research agenda, the candidate is expected to
strengthen the Department’s research priorities and to be able to engage in
interdisciplinary collaboration with research groups in the Department and,
more broadly, the Catalan research ecosystem. They should have a clear vision
on how to apply for funding, with an ambitious but realistic plan for the next
five years.

Priority will be given to candidates who provide evidence of capacity for
cutting-edge research and use of state-of-the-art methods, independent of the
total number of years of experience and/or current position. Merits will be
assessed in proportion to the number of years since the start of the PhD.

Teaching: The appointee will teach up to 160 classroom hours annually in
undergraduate and graduate courses, including final project supervision
(undergraduate, master’s and PhD dissertations). Specifically, they will be
expected to coordinate teams of co-teachers as well as teach in the module of
English as a foreign language in the BA degrees offered by the School of
Translation and Language Sciences at UPF. In addition, they will be able to
teach in other teaching areas in the department including Language and
Cognition and Language and Education, both at the BA and Master’s level.

Department offer: The standard duration of the contract is 5 years; during the
4th year the Tenure-track lecturer will undergo performance evaluation in all
areas, including their commitment to the Department’s goals and needs. If
performance evaluation is successful, the University will issue a call for a
permanent, tenured position.

Qualifications
 - Education: Applicants must hold a PhD at the time of application.
 - Research: candidates must have demonstrated an ability to conduct
outstanding research with publications at an international level.
 - Teaching: Applicants must demonstrate capacity to teach at higher education
levels, evidence of pedagogical skills, and a keen interest in teaching
innovation. Native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written English.
 - Language requirement: at least B2 CEFR in Catalan and/or Spanish

Applications should be submitted through the Interfolio platform at the
