Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Approaches to Syntax and Semantics
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Cognitive Science; Computational Linguistics; Semantics; Syntax

Description:

The Formal and Computational Semantics lab (FACTS.lab) at the University of
Rochester—directed by Aaron Steven White in the Department of
Linguistics—seeks to recruit a postdoctoral fellow in computational approaches
to natural language syntax and semantics to start in the summer of 2022 and
continue for up to three years. The successful candidate will have a PhD in
Linguistics or related discipline by the start date as well as a strong
background in natural language syntax and semantics. A strong background in
programming and statistical analysis is preferred.

This position is research-oriented and comes with no teaching obligations,
though the possibility of incorporating teaching into the fellowship can be
discussed. In their cover letter, candidates should briefly describe a
research project that they would be interested in undertaking over the course
of the fellowship. Projects that integrate with ongoing research in FACTS.lab
on lexicon/grammar induction and/or semantic parsing are strongly preferred,
but such foci are not a requirement.

Funding for this position is commensurate with postdoctoral fellowships funded
by the National Science Foundation's Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and
Economic Sciences: the fellow will receive a $54,000 per year stipend and
$15,000 in research and travel funding per year. Up to $3,000 in moving
expenses will also be covered.

Applications for the position should be submitted to the application email
address below and should consist of a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, and a
writing sample. Review of applications will begin immediately and will
continue until the position is filled.
