Description:
Context:
The internship will take place in the context of the ANR project “Lexhnology”.
This project aims to create an online learning resource for learners of legal
English, specifically for reading comprehension of American judicial
decisions. Lexhnology is led by Mary C. Lavissière (CRINI, Nantes Université).
Other partners include LS2N (Nantes Université), ATILF (CNRS & Université de
Lorraine), and LAIRDIL (Université de Toulouse).

Goal of the internship:
To identify needs, use cases and features for the development of a platform
for facilitating reading legal documents. This is a rare opportunity to work
on a major national project, collaborating with experienced researchers in a
mixed university and CNRS environment, leading to a genuine contribution to a
deliverable product and co-authorship of an academic paper.

Tasks:
 - Constructing an interview guide and a questionnaire and associated
protocols, based on the current literature
 - Conducting interviews and administering questionnaires amongst relevant
populations
 - Analyzing the results
 - Collaborating with the ANR team and the company that will design the
platform
 - Writing up the results in form of a co-authored academic paper

Requirements:
 - Excellent academic record
 - Currently completing the second year of a Master’s program in language
teaching/learning, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), applied linguistics,
or closely related field
 - English and French proficiency (at least B2)
 - Knowledge of mixed methods for survey analysis
 - Initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team

Additional desired skills:
 - Interest in legal English and/or ESP in general
 - Some knowledge of needs analysis in language learning
 - Experience in creating and analyzing questionnaires and/or interviews,
online or face-to-face

Description of internship:
 - Salary: 650 euros (gross salary per month)
 - Start date: 6 January 2023
 - Duration: 6 months
 - Place: The administrative laboratory will be the CRINI (Nantes). The
internship will take place at the ATILF (Université de Lorraine and CNRS),
Nancy; potentially some short field trips in France
 - Supervisors: Dr Carmenne Kalyaniwala, Prof Alex Boulton
