Description:

The English Department at the Faculty of Philology, Ruhr-Universität Bochum,
seeks to fill the position of a Junior Professor (tenure track W2) for
'English with a focus on Medieval Studies. The successful applicant should
have a promising research record in English medieval studies in (at least) one
of the following areas:
 - history of the English language
 - medieval English literature
 - medieval English culture

We especially invite those with an excellent interdisciplinary research
profile and the willingness to cooperate with researchers in the Faculty of
Philology and beyond. In the short to medium term, the applicant is expected
to contribute fully to the curricula of our study programmes B.A. and M.A.
English Studies, M.Ed. English, as well as the interdepartmental programme
MaRS (Medieval and Renaissance Studies), covering the periods of Old and
Middle English.

Your profile:
 - extensive knowledge and experience in the field of medieval studies;
 - excellent academic achievements during the doctoral and postdoctoral
period;
 - pedagogical aptitude and a high level of commitment in teaching;
 - commitment to obtaining third-party funding and developing conducive
research structures;
 - involvement in international research contexts;
 - willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation;
 - willingness to participate in academic self-administration;
 - ability to work in a team, skills in cooperative leadership and a
commitment to acquiring further personnel management competence.

The candidate must meet the appointment requirements according to section 36
ff. Hochschulgesetz NW.

The post is limited to a period of three years with a further three-year
option depending on a positive interim evaluation. A positive tenure
evaluation in the final year will then lead to a W2 professorship with tenure.
