Description:

The Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) at Utah State University
invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month, academic-year, position
at the rank of Assistant Professor in Translation and Interpretation. For this
teaching-centered faculty position, we seek to hire an individual with
experience teaching, research and/or professional praxis in Translation and
Interpretation Studies. This position is located on the Logan campus, but will
also provide instructional support to USU’s statewide students and campuses.
This individual reports to the WLC department head. The anticipated start date
is August 2023.

Responsibilities: 
The successful candidate will be expected to:
 - Teach undergraduate theory courses in Translation and Interpretation
Studies in English
 - Maintain an active profile as a researcher and/or practitioner in
Translation and Interpretation
 - Collaborate with the WLC department head, Section Coordinators, and other
faculty members across the department in the creation of a departmental
certificate/minor/major program in Translation and Interpretation Studies
 - Develop a curriculum that envisions aspects of human rights, social
justice, and a meaningful understanding of cross-cultural communication in
healthcare and legal settings
 - Carry out program development in Translation and Interpretation Studies
 - Participate/Teach in the “Bridging the Gap” Interpreter program
 - Build partnerships with local, state, national, and global entities to
enhance student opportunities in Translation and/or Interpretation
 - Coordinate student internship and practicum experiences
 - Facilitate extra-curricular activities related to Translation and/or
Interpretation

Qualifications: 

Minimum Qualifications:
 - PhD related to Translation and/or Interpretation in a language taught in
the WLC department by August 15, 2023, or a Master’s degree with at least five
years professional experience as a Translator and/or Interpreter
 - Native or Near-Native Spanish language proficiency
 - Evidence of teaching or professional excellence in Translation and/or
Interpretation
 - Experience in the area of Healthcare and Legal Translation and/or
Interpretation
 - Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:
 - Proficiency in an additional language from the WLC (Arabic, Chinese,
French, German, Portuguese, and/or Russian)
 - Experience with program and/or curriculum development in Translation and/or
Interpretation Studies
