Job Title: Post-Doctoral Researcher and Lecturer in Psycholinguistics (m/f/d)
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Cognitive Science; Language Acquisition; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

The Chair of English Linguistics/Psycholinguistics (A I) at the University of
Mannheim (Germany) invites applications for a 3-year post-doctoral position
(100% TVL 13) with the possibility of extension for up to three more years.
The position includes teaching and research responsibilities. It provides the
candidate with the opportunity to pursue their own research program. The chair
offers basic financial support and a supportive infrastructure to carry out
research, including a state-of-the-art lab with stationary and mobile
eye-tracking systems and a mobile EEG system.

The successful candidate will have a strong research record, appropriate to
the stage of their career, and a forward-looking research program with the
potential to attract external funding. The program should align with our
research focus on language acquisition and language processing using
experimental and quantitative methods. The candidate will also contribute to
the development of the child language learning lab (PI: Prof. Dr.
Altvater-Mackensen) and strengthen the neurocognitive expertise of the Chair.
We are therefore looking for a researcher who has experience in eye tracking
and EEG data acquisition/analysis and good knowledge of quantitative
statistical methods.

The teaching load associated with the position includes two 90-minute seminar
courses in each 14-week semester in core areas of English linguistics,
psycholinguistics and/or applied linguistics. The candidate is further
expected to co-supervise BA and MA theses. All teaching will be in English.
Fluency in German is an advantage but not essential.

The salary is ~ €50,000 to €70,000 per annum, depending on experience. The
starting time will be December 1, 2022, or as soon thereafter as possible. The
University of Mannheim is an equal opportunity employer and particularly
encourages applications from women and persons with disabilities.

Informal inquiries about the position can be directed to Nicole
Altvater-Mackensen (see email below). Applications received by October 17,
2022 will receive full consideration, although interviews may start at any
time and will continue until the position has been filled.

For application, please submit one pdf document to the Chair's secretary Petra
Schellenberger, containing:
 - a letter of motivation,
 - a recent CV,
 - a brief statement of research interests and/or description of planned
research (1 page),
 - one representative publication,
 - a record of teaching incl. teaching evaluations, and
 - the contact information of two academic referees.
When applying by email, please be aware that breach of confidentiality and
unauthorized access by a third party cannot be excluded.
