Description:

The Department of English Literature and Linguistics at Qatar University
invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor level position in
linguistics. We are seeking someone who, in addition to teaching a broad range
of undergraduate courses in Linguistics, will have demonstrated expertise and
effectiveness in using experimental methods, especially EEG and the relevant
ERP data acquisition and analysis skills, to the study of language, and
evidence of relevant research published in reputed refereed journals. We are
looking to hire someone who can use these experimental methods in teaching and
as pivot to establish research collaboration with existing scholars in the
Department and College who pursue different theoretical interests. Evidence of
research on Arabic and other languages spoken in Qatar is an asset.

Additional responsibilities include contributing to the university core
curriculum; supervising graduation projects; contributing to various
committees at the Department, College, and University levels; contributing to
the research profile of the College through innovative and interdisciplinary
research publications; being an active member in the department, college, and
university communities; and other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of
Department. The Department of English Literature and Linguistics is committed
to familiarizing students with both the theoretical and applied aspects of
language sciences and to building an inclusive intellectual community. 
The ideal candidate must demonstrate experience and effectiveness in the
following categories: 
 - teaching introductory courses in linguistics, use of technology in teaching
and research; 
 - establishing and/or maintaining state-of-the-art research facilities; 
 - academic advising and program development;
 - innovative scholarship and professional activities; and 
 - effective institutional and/or community service.

Qualifications:
 - PhD in Linguistics from a reputable and recognized institution.
 - Specialization in experimental research methods on language, especially
with EEG and the relevant ERP data acquisition and analysis skills.
 - Preference will be given to candidates who have excellent programing
skills, hands-on experience in acquisition and analysis of EEG data, extensive
competence in EEGLAB and R, with a solid mastery of linear mixed-effects
models.
 - Research on bi-/multilingual speakers, preferably of Arabic and other
understudied languages.
 - An international standard research record with history publishing in Q1
journals in the field.
 - A minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching at undergraduate and or
postgraduate levels, following the PhD Degree.
 - Familiarity with Educational technologies used in higher education.
 - Hands-on experience in running and managing research labs.
 - Ability to initiate and be involved in collaborative interdisciplinary
research and joint grant applications in collaborations with researchers from
allied fields (psychology, computer science and speech language disorders,
among others).
 - Willingness to work with teams and with people from diverse backgrounds and
in various Qatar University units.
 - Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
