Meeting Description:

This online lecture series focuses on non- and low-literate adult migrants who
are in the process of acquiring literacy in a second language. In the first
part, we will look at the linguistic foundations of literacy (as opposed to
orality) and the acquisition of literacy, and investigate the variety of
writing systems and of orthographic systems. In the second part, experts from
different countries will present examples of teaching material developed on
the basis of the new LASLLIAM reference guide by the Council of Europe (2022).
The third part of the lecture focuses on acquisitional processes, cognitive
aspects and the assessment of literacy development in this vulnerable learner
group.
