THEME

Foreign language education has been confronted with a number of challenges in
recent years, which include, among other things, unpredictable phenomena, such
as the pandemic, evolving needs of language learners, problems involved in
language teacher education, changes in the national curricula or the
development of new technologies. The event will provide opportunities for
exchanging ideas concerning such issues but also ways in which foreign
language education in different contexts can be made more effective. It will
also be an opportunity to celebrate a decade of existence of Konin Language
Studies (https://ksj.konin.edu.pl/language/en/about-ksj/), a journal published
by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences since 2013.  

ORGANIZERS

The event will be organized by the Department of Language and Communication,
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Applied Sciences in
Konin, Poland. The Chair of the Organizing Committee is Professor Mirosław
Pawlak (miroslaw.pawlak at konin.edu.pl ).

PLENARY SPEAKERS

The following scholars have agreed to deliver keynotes during the conference:

- Sally Burgess (University of La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) 
- Barbara Lewandowska-Tomaszczyk (University of Applied Sciences in Konin,
Poland)
- Lucilla Lopriore (University Roma Tre, Rome, Italy)
- Mirosław Pawlak (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań; University of Applied
Sciences in Konin, Poland)
- Aleksandra Wach (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland)

VENUE 

The venue for the event will be the Conference Center of State University of
Applied Sciences in Konin, Poland at Popiełuszki 4 St., where all the plenary
and parallel sessions will be held, and meals and refreshments will be served.

REGISTRATION AND CONFERENCE FEE

All participants are requested to return the registration form (the same as
for abstract submission – see the link above) by May 5th and pay the
conference fee by May 25th, 2023. The fee, which covers organization costs,
conference materials, conference dinner, lunches and refreshments is 350PLN
for participants from Poland and 90EUR for participants from abroad. We will
be able to refund 50% of the fee before June 1st, 2023. The fee should be
transferred to the following bank account (bank transfer charges are the
responsibility of the payer):

Call for Papers:

The languages of the conference are English and Polish. We welcome
contributions in the form of papers (20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion),
posters and workshop (60 minutes) focusing on, but not limited to, the
following areas: 

- teaching foreign language skills and subsystems;
- developing pragmatic competence;
- developing intercultural competence; 
- individual differences in language learning and teaching;
- learner autonomy and language learning strategies; 
- content and language integrated learning (e.g., EMI);
- teaching foreign languages at different educational levels; 
- classroom interaction and management;
- teacher education and professional development; 
- teacher identity;
- using translation in foreign language teaching; 
- coursebooks, materials, syllabuses;
- evaluation of foreign language proficiency.

Abstracts of papers and posters in the range of 100-150 words should be
submitted by filling out the abstract submission form (available on the
conference Web site) by May 5th, 2023. Notifications of acceptance will be
sent by May 15th, 2023.
