Description:

The Faculty of Philology and History at the University of Augsburg, Germany,
invites applications for the position of W3 Professorship/Chair in Applied
English Linguistics (f/m/d) to be filled by 01 October 2024, in tenured
position.

The successful applicant will represent the field of Applied Linguistics, with
a focus on English, in its full breadth in research and teaching. He/she will
have proven expertise in empirical, in particular quantitative methodologies.
Based on a strong discourse-linguistic and pragmatic background, candidates
will have a proven research record in two of the following areas: register and
genre studies, (mass)medial communication, intercultural communication,
comparative / contrastive linguistics, sociolinguistics.

The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the BA- and MA-degrees
Applied Intercultural Linguistics as well as all English-related degree
courses. Experiences in digital teaching and in international and
interdisciplinary teaching or research cooperations are highly desirable.
Active contributions to setting up a Digital Humanities research field are
expected. Candidates should have experience with raising external funding and
with contributing service at department and university levels.

Employment requirements are a relevant university degree, evidence of
successful teaching experience, the ability to pursue scientific work, which
is generally demonstrated by a doctorate, as well as the habilitation
(lecturer qualification) or proof of equivalent academically relevant
achievements in the field of English Linguistics, which may also have been
achieved in the context of a junior professorship. An appointment to the civil
service may only be made until the age of 52 (Art. 10 Abs. 3 Satz 2
BayHSchPG). Exemptions are only possible in exceptional cases.
