(Assistant Research Professor)

The Center for Advanced Language Proficiency Education and Research (CALPER)
at the Pennsylvania State University, is seeking applications for an Associate
Director of CALPER and Assistant Director of the Center for Language
Acquisition This is a non-tenured-track position to be filled at the rank of
Assistant Research Professor.
 
CALPER is one of 16 Title VI Language Resource Centers funded by the U.S.
Department of Education. CALPER’s long-standing mission is to strengthen,
promote, and support the nation’s capacity for teaching and learning foreign
languages, with a particular focus on the advanced levels of language learning
and teacher professional development of less commonly taught languages. The
primary purpose of this position is to work with the Director in managing and
coordinating various tasks associated with the operation, finance, project
management, and leadership of CALPER, including the day-to-day operation of
CALPER. In addition, the appointee will work with the Director in managing
events and programs, reporting and budgeting, grant work, and contributing to
research projects in the Center for Language Acquisition. This is a full-time,
limited-term appointment, for one year from date of hire with a possibility of
renewal. The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as possible. 
 
Responsibilities: The Associate Director of CALPER and Assistant Director of
the Center for Language Acquisition will contribute to the daily operation of
both Centers by:
 - Managing daily operations of the Centers, including overseeing event
planning
 - Managing outreach programs and their dissemination including but not
limited to the Language Teaching Forum, the Penn State Workshops in Research
Methods for Applied Linguists, the Invited Speaker Series, and CALPER
professional development workshops
 - Contributing to reports and budgets for the federal government, Penn
State’s College of the Liberal Arts, and other stakeholders
 - Collaborating with faculty, administrators, and students at partner
institutions and other Title VI Language Resource Centers
 - Contributing to the review process for applications for various center
awards and initiatives
 - Expanding the reach and impact of the Centers with community entities and
Penn State groups
 - Overseeing budgetary spending and ensuring compliance with Penn State and
the Department of Education budgetary guidelines
 - Co-preparing the Center’s Annual Report
 - Liaising with the Centers’ advisory panels and coordinating (bi-)annual
meetings
 - Identifying external funding opportunities and contributing to grant
proposal preparation and submission
 - Evaluating, developing, and enhancing quality improvement practices,
workflow processes, or procedures that impact the operations of the Centers
 - Attending and participating in national, regional, and state conferences
and connecting with language professionals at these conferences (approximately
three conferences per year)
 - Contributing to research projects
