The Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology at
Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg (FAU) invites applications

and Change in the German Language at the Department of German and Comparative
Studies. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position to be filled
by October 1, 2024.

We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible research
and teaching profile. The successful candidate will teach and carry out
research into all aspects of German linguistics and will have a clear focus on
variational linguistics and historical linguistics. Your publications will
have made an impact internationally and you will have a strong academic
network. We would welcome experience in interdisciplinary collaborative
research. You will be expected to take an active part in all bachelor’s and
master’s degree programs involving the German language as well as in all
teaching degree programs (for the different types of school in Germany). You
will also be expected to become involved in the Interdisciplinary Centers for
Linguistics and in research activities within the research training group
“Dimensions of Constructional Space”. Management of academic affairs and
participation in international partnerships and exchange programs will also
fall under your remit.

Successful candidates show an excellent academic track record in research and
teaching at the highest international standards. You have substantial research
experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in
managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university
degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education
and pertinent teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able
and willing to teach in both German and English are desired. The position also
requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form
of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications.
You may also have acquired these necessary qualifications in a non-university
context or through a junior faculty position (for example as W1 professor or
assistant professor).

FAU expects applicants to demonstrate academic leadership, engage in early
career development, and to drive FAU’s strategic agenda. FAU pursues a policy
of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be
present during lecture periods.

FAU offers an outstandingly productive research environment as well as a
passionate and multi-disciplinary scholarly community within a vibrant
institutional network.

In its pursuit of academic excellence, FAU is committed to equality of
opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach, which supports and
encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and
values diversity. FAU is a family-friendly employer and is also responsive to
the needs of dual career couples.

Please submit your complete application documents (CV, list of publications,
list of lectures and courses taught, copies of certificates and degrees, list
of third-party funding) online at the application link below by February 26,
2023, addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and
