Background
Over the years, language studies have mainly involved the use of
small-scale data in the empirical study of human communication in
different social situations. With the advent of the computer, language
research has evolved, leading to the use of corpora, which are
collections of authentic language data that have been stored in
electronic format, as the basis for linguistic research. Thus, corpus
linguistics has the benefits of being empirical, verifiable, and
objective in investigating different branches of linguistics,
including grammar, phonology, stylistics, and sociolinguistics, among
others. Moreover, corpora serve as valuable tools in the exploration
of human interactions in different (in)formal language contexts,
including politics, education, medicine, and the New Media. Therefore,
scholars in and outside Nigeria are invited to submit abstracts of
well-researched corpus-based papers on the following, but not limited
to the underlisted sub-themes:
