Description:
The Modern Language Association (MLA) seeks an intern for summer 2023
to assist with indexing, editing, and proofreading tasks related to
production of the MLA International Bibliography, the premier database
for research in world languages and literatures, linguistics, film,
folklore, and writing studies.
Reporting principally to the editor of the MLA International
Bibliography, the indexer intern will be trained to index scholarly
publications in fields covered by the bibliography and to assist in
maintaining records on periodical coverage. The indexer intern will
also perform related work as needed and participate in conversations
about indexing and metadata management.

Candidates should possess strong organizational, writing, and research
skills and have reading knowledge of at least one language other than
English. Particular attention will be paid to candidates who are
enrolled in or have completed an advanced degree in languages,
literature, the humanities, or library and information science.

The indexer intern will receive a $960 stipend every other week for
the ten-week internship starting 5 June 2023. This is a work-from-home
position. The intern will work remotely with staff members and
participate in regular video conferences, communicating with team
members through email, documents shared on Google Drive, and our
