Description:

The Department of World Languages and Literatures at the University of Nevada,
Reno invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, continuing
Lecturer/Teaching Assistant Professor position in Japanese with an anticipated
start date of July 1, 2023. The successful applicant will teach 12 units each
semester consisting of first through third-year language and culture courses
beginning on July 1, 2023. This is a non-tenure-track, continuing position
with opportunities for promotion. Non-tenure-track faculty in the Department
of World Languages and Literatures teach 24 credits per year, typically 12
credits in each fall and spring semester. Non-tenure-track faculty
additionally participate in professional development activities and perform
service to the department, the college, and the University. 

Required Qualifications: 
 - Native or near-native proficiency in English and Japanese;
 - Master’s degree or PhD in Japanese language, literature, linguistics, or a
related field (e.g., second language acquisition) in hand by July 1, 2023;
 - A record of excellence in language teaching in the U.S. college setting and
ability to teach Japanese culture course in English; and 
 - Knowledge and experience in instructional technology

Preferred Qualifications: 
 - Experience in teaching of Japan/Japanese-related content courses in English
 - Good communication skills to interact effectively with a diverse range of
students and colleagues, as well as with teachers and administrators in the
school district
 - Willingness to teach Japanese in a flipped classroom setting
