Linguistic Field(s): History of Linguistics

Call Deadline: 01-Sep-2023

Meeting Description:

The North American Association for the History of the Language
Sciences (NAAHoLS) promotes the study of the history of the many
disciplines concerned with language. These include the field of
linguistics and sub-fields within anthropology, cognitive science,
philosophy, psychology, and sociology. Since its founding in 1987,
NAAHoLS has held annual meetings in conjunction with the Linguistic
Society of America, and is one of LSA's Sister Societies.

Call for Papers:

The 2024 NAAHoLS meeting will again be held in conjunction with the
Linguistic Society of America and other affiliated “sister societies”.
The LSA annual meeting is scheduled to take place in New York City, NY
(Sheraton Times Square), from 4-7 January 2024 (further details about
the meeting will be provided in our forthcoming NAAHoLS newsletter in
Summer 2024, and information will also be available on-line at
https://naahols.org). We invite papers relating to any aspect of the
history of the language sciences. Papers will be 20 minutes, with 10
minutes for discussion. Abstracts should be submitted as file
attachments (preferably in Word). The length of the abstract should
not exceed 500 words – upon acceptance, a shorter (100 word) abstract
will also be requested for the LSA meeting handbook. Next year will
represent the 100th anniversary of the founding of the LSA in 1924,
and NAAHoLS hopes to schedule history-oriented sessions related to
this milestone.

The deadline for abstracts is 1 September 2023. Abstracts should be
sent to: David Boe, Department of English, Northern Michigan
University, Marquette, MI 49855; (906) 227-2677; dboe at nmu.edu. All
presenters must be members of the association (contact the NAAHoLS
Secretary for details).
