Description:

The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies in the College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a non-tenure track
Instructor/Lecturer position in the Q’anjob’al language teaching to
begin on August 16, 2023.  Renewal of the position is contingent on
funding and strong performance reviews.

Duties include: Develop and teach 3 courses per semester (Beginning
Q’anjob’al, Intermediate Q’anjob’al, and Q’anjob’al for the
community); Design/administer placement and proficiency tests; Engage
in community outreach.

Qualifications:
Required:
For a position at the rank of Instructor:
 - a Master's degree in Q’anjob’al, Linguistics, Second Language
Acquisition, Education, Latin American Studies, Epigraphy, or related
field.

For a position at the rank of Lecturer:
 - a PhD in Q’anjob’al, Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition,
Education, Latin American Studies, Epigraphy, or related field

All candidates must have native or near-native proficiency in
Q’anjob’al and English, and teaching experience, preferably in US
higher education with specific experience teaching Q’anjob’al as a
foreign language.

Preferred:
 - Record of effective teaching at the college level, or, Record of
teaching and curricular/program development in a non-college setting
 - Prior experience with online teaching, or, Demonstrate clear desire
to develop and implement online courses

Salary and Appointment Information:
This is a full-time, 9-month appointment, non-tenure track position,
renewable yearly subject to enrollments, funding, and positive
performance evaluations. Target start date is August 16, 2023.  Salary
is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
