Position Description

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing at The University of
Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) seeks to fill up to three tenure-track,
open-rank faculty positions in Speech Science, Language Science, and
Hearing Science. Applicants with expertise spanning the spectrum of
basic, applied, and clinical research in speech, language, and hearing
are encouraged. These positions require an active research program
with current or clear potential for extra-mural funding, publications
in peer-reviewed journals, and service within the UT Dallas and
professional communities. Teaching responsibilities will include
undergraduate and graduate level courses within the successful
applicants’ discipline.

The appointments will commence for the fall 2024 semester.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: A PhD in Speech, Language, and
Hearing Sciences, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Neuroscience,
Cognitive Science, Psychology, Engineering, or equivalent degree in
another related discipline is required prior to employment. Candidates
are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a
highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of
individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We
are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or
creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and
able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices
to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and
experiences.

Preferred Education and Experience: Clinical credentials or licensure
are preferred but not required for these positions. Experience as a
postdoctoral researcher is preferred for those seeking appointment as
an Assistant Professor. Candidates seeking Associate Professor or Full
Professor appointments should have experience and qualifications
commensurate with those positions. Applicants with a well-established
record of extramurally funded research and publication history will be
considered for endowed research appointments that provide annual
support for high-impact speech, language, and hearing research
programs.

The Department/Program/School

The UT Dallas Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing is home to a
thriving undergraduate program with multiple tracks that support
students with diverse career interests, highly regarded clinical
education programs in both Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology,
and a robust PhD program. Faculty teach undergraduate and graduate
level courses within their discipline and area of expertise.

Tenure-stream faculty in the UT Dallas Department of Speech, Language,
and Hearing lead systematic research programs in state-of-art
facilities located at the UT Dallas Callier Center for Communication
Disorders locations. The Callier Center houses individual and core
laboratory suites in addition to its comprehensive clinical facilities
and is home to UT Dallas’s highly rated Doctor of Audiology and Master
of Science in Speech-Pathology programs. Co-localization of clinical
and research facilities at the Callier Center enhances opportunities
for clinical and translational research efforts. Callier Center
clinicians evaluate and provide treatment to more than 4,000 children
and adults, with more than 20,000 patient visits annually. All
patients are registered in a clinical research registry unless they
opt-out, directly supporting opportunities to recruit Callier patients
as participants in speech, language, and hearing research studies.
