Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Utah invites
applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor,
Associate Professor, or Full Professor to begin July 1, 2024, pending
budgetary approval. The successful candidate must have completed a
Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field by the time of appointment.

This position involves a specialization in Computational Linguistics,
with an additional specialization in at least one other core area of
Linguistics (e.g., Phonology, Semantics, Syntax, Second Language
Acquisition, Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, etc.). The
successful candidate will have a background in the fundamentals of
Computer Science (including data structures, algorithms, and machine
learning). The person hired into this position will be expected to
conduct and publish research that makes use of computational methods
while also contributing to the literature in one or more core areas of
linguistics. We especially encourage applications from candidates who
are eager and qualified to conduct collaborative research with other
members of our faculty, who will contribute actively to the success of
the department’s research and teaching missions, and who will
contribute to increasing the diversity of the department’s
intellectual life and offerings through experience related to

Duties include a sustained research program, the mentorship of
graduate and undergraduate student-scholars, a standard teaching load
of four courses per year, and departmental and/or university service.
The person hired into this position will contribute to our
Computational Linguistics Certificate Program and help foster
relations between our department and our colleagues in the
university’s School of Computing. The salary for this position is
competitive and commensurate with the person’s qualifications. The
