Description:

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Linguistics

The Department of Global Languages and Cultures, in the College of
Arts & Sciences at Texas A&M University, invites applications for a
full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Linguistics,
with a 9 month appointment to begin August 1, 2024.

Applicants should have a PhD in Linguistics or related field at the
time of their appointment and should present evidence of a research
program commensurate with the expectations of an R1 institution. Area
of specialization within linguistics is open, but we are especially
interested in candidates with expertise in language acquisition,
sociolinguistics, bilingualism and contact linguistics, and/or applied
fields such as pedagogy, translation, and interpreting studies.

Candidates should have native or near-native proficiency in at least
one of the modern languages currently offered by the department
(Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and
Spanish) and be willing to teach undergraduate language courses at all
levels (beginning, intermediate and advanced). In addition, they will
be expected to develop and teach courses in their field of expertise
at the graduate and undergraduate level. The expected course load is
two courses per semester (with a reduced load in the first year of
appointment).

The Department of Global Languages and Cultures, created in 2022 to
develop broad and innovative programs, currently offers
degrees/programs in modern languages and Classics, graduate degrees in
Hispanic Studies, and undergraduate minors in Africana Studies and
Religious Studies. Further information about the Department of Global
