Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of North Texas invites
applications for a tenured/tenure-track faculty position with an
anticipated start date of August 2024. This is an open-rank search;
the position will be filled at the rank of assistant professor
(tenure-track) or associate or full professor (tenured) depending on
experience and qualifications. We seek candidates who are active and
documented researchers in computational modeling of linguistic
phenomena or language variation. Besides those specialties, we are
especially interested in candidates with the ability to teach
undergraduate and graduate courses in phonetics and phonology. Duties
will include teaching in the applicant’s area of interest and
specialization as well as mentoring undergraduate and graduate
students. The standard teaching load is 2-2.

University Description:
The University of North Texas is a Tier 1 research university with
more than 42,000 students. It is located in Denton, Texas, which is
part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Department Description:
The Department of Linguistics is one of three departments in UNT’s
College of Information. This positions faculty in a collaborative
environment for developing cutting-edge curricula and innovative
research opportunities that incorporate research on language structure
and use with language technology, text mining, computational and
quantitative methods in linguistics, and natural language processing.
Degree programs in the Department of Linguistics include a BA in
Linguistics, an MA in Linguistics, an Interdisciplinary MS in
Computational Linguistics, and Graduate Academic Certificates in TESOL
and in Computational Linguistics. Students in the Information Science
(IS) Ph.D. program may also opt to do a concentration in linguistics.

Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD in Linguistics or a related field with a research concentration
in linguistics is required by the end of Fall 2023.

Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of an active research agenda, a promising trajectory for
grant acquisition, and a strong commitment to innovative teaching are
preferred.
