Description:

The University of Zurich invites applications for a professorship
(open rank) in German Linguistics with a focus on Semantics –
Pragmatics – Interaction starting on 1 August 2025.

The future holder of the position is expected to have carried out
excellent, internationally visible research in the field of German
Linguistics and should have adequate teaching experience. A research
focus in the area of linguistic interaction with a perspective on
semantics and/or pragmatics is part of the job profile. In addition,
candidates are required to show a demonstrable interest in
empirical-quantitative methods for research on linguistic interaction.
Teaching should cover German linguistics with a focus on the
aforementioned topics. In addition to innovative research impulses for
the field, cooperation (in research and teaching) with other
professorships at the Department of German Studies, the Faculty of
Arts and Social Science, the Linguistics Center for the Literary
Present Zurich (LiZZ), the NCCR Evolving Language as well as with
national and international institutions is expected.

At the time of application, the candidates are required to hold a
doctoral degree in the field of German Linguistics and to have a track
record of excellent scientific publications.

The position should be filled by 1 August 2025. Depending on the
qualifications of the candidate, the professorship will be filled as a
full professorship, associate professorship or assistant professorship
with tenure track.

The Department of German Studies, the University of Zurich and the
role of Zurich as a centre for research and education offer a
stimulating research and teaching environment with diverse
opportunities for professional exchange and cooperation. The
University of Zurich aims to increase the proportion of women and
