Description:

The Department of Linguistics and the Teresa Lorenzo Long Institute
for Latin American Studies (LLILAS) at The University of Texas at
Austin invite applications for a joint faculty member at the Assistant
(tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenured) rank, to begin Fall
Semester of the academic year 2024-25. We are seeking a specialist in
the study of the Indigenous languages of Latin America whose research
interests lie in any area of linguistics. Duties will include
undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service to both
units. Among the service obligations, the successful candidate will be
expected to direct, for a renewable period of three years, LLILAS’s
Indigenous Languages Initiative (ILI), which is focused on teaching,
researching, promoting, and revitalizing Indigenous languages spoken
in Latin America.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field by the
time of appointment and have demonstrated a strong record of research
and teaching. Proficiency in at least one Indigenous language of Latin
America, and experience teaching Latin American Indigenous languages,
are preferred. We seek candidates who can teach linguistics courses at
all levels (lower- and upper-division undergraduate, and graduate),
and who can train the next generation of researchers in the study of
Indigenous languages of Latin America.

describing their research program, a statement of teaching interests
(including a list of courses that the applicant would be interested in
teaching), evidence of past teaching performance or teaching
potential, three letters of recommendation, and three writing samples.
The search committee will begin reviewing applications on November 15,
2023, and continue until the position is filled.
