The Department of World Languages & Cultures at the University of Utah
invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chinese applied
linguistics, pedagogy, and/or second language acquisition at the rank
of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2024 (contract begins July 1).

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chinese linguistics, applied
linguistics, second language acquisition with a Chinese focus, or a
related field such as education or Chinese pedagogy in hand by August
15, 2024. Clear evidence of research potential and a track record of
teaching excellence is required. The successful candidate will be
expected to contribute to all areas of undergraduate and graduate
programs, including curricular development. The teaching load is two
courses per semester (2-2), encompassing Chinese language teaching at
all levels, depending on program needs. Service commensurate with the
rank of assistant professor is expected. Native or near-native fluency
in Chinese and English is a prerequisite.

Additional requirements: experience in teaching Chinese at the college
/ university level in North America and demonstrated interest in
promoting effective language teaching. Adaptability with instructional
technologies, experience practicing modern foreign language teaching
methodologies, and demonstration of active participation in the
professional field are highly desirable.

Complete applications will include a letter of application, a CV, a
writing sample of no more than 20 pages, evidence of teaching
effectiveness, a diversity statement, and three letters of
