Hello linguists!

It is I! Percival! Wooly mammoth supervisor of LINGUIST List system
administrator Daniel! I sit now upon his shoulder dictating this
letter to you all. Another school year has come and (almost) gone.
This is our second at LINGUIST List and our third at Indiana
University in the computational linguistics PhD program.

At present, our primary job at LINGUIST List is cleaning up the
accumulated oddities that often come with multiple decades of software
development (like the fact that there are currently about 5 different
ways to have an account on our website and there are duplicate
accounts which sometimes prevent people from logging in at all - we're
nearly done fixing that).

When we're not working on LINGUIST List, Daniel's research focuses on
machine translation for minority languages (except for all the time
he's spent this semester trying to make sense of quantifiers in a
Tibeto-Burman language called Lutuv). When not doing research or
trying to finish our second (and final!) qualifying paper, we've been
getting into baking and Salsa dancing this semester. Or at least,
Daniel's been dancing. Unfortunately, Salsa was designed for bipedal
creatures, which I am not.

Thank you, dear readers, for reading this brief snippet of our lives,
and thank you even more for your donations
(https://funddrive.linguistlist.org/donate) that fund our continued
academic existence.

Percival (but actually Daniel because it's hard to type with tusks)
