Description:

Position Overview:
The Department of Language and Culture (ISK) at UiT, part of the
Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education (HSL), is
offering a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in multilingualism.
This position is associated with the Center for Language, Brain &
Learning (C-LaBL), specifically within the Language domain, funded by
the Trond Mohn Foundation 2024-2029. The fixed-term position spans
three years and is aimed at qualifying candidates for prominent
academic roles.

Location and Starting Date:
The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø (Norway), with an anticipated
starting date in August/September 2024.

Department and Research Environment:
ISK boasts a dynamic research profile, housing notable research
communities in linguistics, cognitive linguistics, and language
technology. The department offers a range of programs and PhD
opportunities. C-LaBL aims to advance understanding of
multilingualism's cognitive aspects, emphasizing linguistic distance
and its impact on language development and processing.

Project Focus:
This postdoc position falls under C-LaBL's Language domain, focusing
on understanding the mental mechanisms of interacting
languages/varieties. The research aims to establish cognitive measures
of Relative Language Distance (RLD) between varieties and languages,
exploring crosslinguistic influence (CLI) and structural similarities.
It investigates the acquisition of grammatical properties in
multilingual minds, assessing the effects of linguistic distance on
language acquisition and processing.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the research
team, contribute to project planning, conduct experimental research,
analyze data, and disseminate findings. They will engage in
multilingualism-related investigations across domains within C-LaBL,
fostering collaboration and contributing to the department's ongoing
development.

Qualifications:
 - Required: PhD in linguistics, language sciences, cognitive science,
or related fields, experience with experimental design and data
analysis, and excellent proficiency in English.
 - Desired: Expertise in language acquisition, proficiency in
Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.

Emphasis will be put on motivation, research potential, collaboration
