Description:

The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at Florida State
University invites applications for a 12-month salaried Teaching
Faculty I position in the Japanese language program beginning August
2024. Applicants must have a doctorate or highest-level terminal
degree (conferred by August 2024) from an accredited institution in
the Japanese Language, Literature, Linguistics, or related field of
specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching,
as well as native or near native proficiency in Japanese and English.
Preference will be given to candidates who have training in cultural
studies, second language pedagogy, and/or assessment, second language
acquisition, familiarity with ACTFL proficiency guidelines, OPI and
other types of assessment. The chosen candidate is expected to be
competent in the use of instructional technology and communicative,
proficiency-based teaching methodologies. The candidate will be
expected to teach three courses per semester at any assigned level in
the Japanese program as well as lead the Japanese Language House on
campus by coordination of cultural and linguistic enrichment
activities.

Candidates are expected to participate in the intellectual life of the
department, whose programs, curriculum, and events bring together
faculty from multiple languages and disciplines. Please visit our

candidate’s approach to Japanese language teaching and prior
experience teaching Japanese at the university level, CV, research
statement, statement of teaching philosophy, and formal student

who advance to the interview stage will be asked to submit evidence of
teaching performance in video format. Review of applications will
begin on March 1, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
