6th Crete Summer School of Linguistics/CreteLing2024

Description:
The Division of Linguistics at the University of Crete invites
undergraduate and graduate students interested in linguistics to apply
to the 6th Summer School in Linguistics in Rethymnon, Crete, Greece.
The school will take place from July 13 to July 26, 2024 and there
will be introductory, intermediate and advanced courses in a number of
linguistic subfields: phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics,
pragmatics, Altaic languages, first and second language acquisition,
neurolinguistics, language change, psycholinguistics and
superlinguistics.

There will also be two workshops:
a) TRACING LANGUAGE HISTORY WITH TOOLS AND METHODS INSPIRED BY
EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY, on Wednesday, July 17 (organized by Elena
Anagnostopoulou (University of Crete & IMS-FORTH), and
b) PRONOMINAL COMPETITION IN GRAMMAR AND PROCESSING, on Wednesday,
July 24 (organized by Brian Dillon, University of Massachusetts,
Amherst and Ivy Sichel, University of California, Santa Cruz).

The application form is available online via the school’s website
(https://linguistics.philology.uoc.gr/cssl24/application.php) from
February, 1 2024 until May, 8 2024. Note that there is an early and a
late application process corresponding to different tuition fees, so
please consult our website for more information.
CreteLing participants are invited to present their work in the
CreteLing Conference during the school. There will be three poster
sessions (on Sunday, July 14, Thursday, July 18 and Monday, July 22).

Tuition:  EURO
Tuition Explanation: Tuition fees for both weeks of the summer school
are: - 400 euros for early student applicants - 500 euros for faculty
members and late student applicants - 600 euros for late faculty
applicants.
Students of the University of Crete do not pay tuition fees.
Retired faculty (from any university) do not pay tuition fees, in
recognition of their contribution to the field.

A number of grants will be available for students. Grants will be
based on merit (based on the applicant's CV and reference letter) and
will be equally distributed among undergraduate and graduate students.

Financial Aid Instructions:
Reference letter must be submitted by the deadline. Without it you
cannot be admitted to the school.

Registration Instructions:
I) Faculty (active or retired) and PostDocs need to fill in the online
application form and submit a CV. No letter of reference is required.
II) Students (undergraduate and graduate) and independent
scholars/other applying to CreteLing2024 will need to:
a) fill in the online application form,
b) upload a short CV in PDF format (including information regarding
the linguistics courses they have taken),
c) ask their referee/supervisor/instructor to send a reference letter
to creteling.admissions at gmail.com.
If we do not receive a letter of reference, your application is not
complete, so please make sure you stay in touch with your referee to
make sure the letter is submitted.
