From: Roger P. G. Thijs [roger.thijs at village.uunet.be]
Subject: Books in dialect

It's not easy to follow the (almost underground) market of books in or about
dialects. Our bookshops are virtually all included in distribution chains
and all sell at mutually similar shelves the Dutch version of books about
sausages, gardening etc. you can find in English version in London or in
German version in Köln.

This week a new idioticon of Antwerp vocabulary was announced in the "Gazet
van Antwerpen".. The book cannot be obtained through the bookshops. For
obtaining a copy (BF 475), one needs to get an appointment, so one needs to
phone the 03-449.42.23, reserve a copy and collect it at the author's home
at the "A. Vesaliuslaan 32, Wilrijk". One queques in the kitchen for getting
one's (signed) copy.

The book:
Marcel c.j. Clement, Idioticon van het Antwerps dialect met volwaardige
eigen fonetiek, 1999, Uitgave ten bate van de POLIO-PLUS Actie van de ROTARY
Foundation, 124 pp.

I did not find much new vis-à-vis other Idioticon's of Antwerp dialect.

A couple of samples though:

kástekingd: kerstkind > babytje > flauw iemand
kástemboeleke: kerstkind > babytje

kázák: boekentas (cf. Fr. Casaque)
kázákdruije: van kamp, sympathie, opinie veranderen

kees: kaas, Hollander
zeune kees erbá loate: sterven

késken-in-de-lántère: een nieuwsgierig iemand (cf. kaarsje in de
lantaarn)
Dá-d-is dor allemol van késken-in-de-lántère: dat zijn franskiljons
(gebruiken "qu'est-ce que")

Regards,
Roger
