Subject: Place names

<Neddersassisch/Low Saxon>

Beste Leeglanners,

Weet een mank Ju, waarüm de neddersassische Stadt, de up (Hoog-)Düütsch "zu
Wittingen" heett, den neddersassischen (nedderdüütschen, plattdüütschen) Naam
"Transvaal" hett? Daar mutt 'n Verbinnen mit Transvaal in Süüdafrika un 'n
intressante Historie achterstecken.

Dank in't Vörruut,

Reinhard/Ron

<English/Ingelsch>

Dear Lowlanders,

Does any of you happen to know why the Lower Saxon town known as "zu Wittingen"
in (High) German has the Low Saxon (Low German) name "Transvaal"? There has got
to be some connection with Transvaal in South Africa and an interesting story
behind this.

Thanks in advance,

Reinhard/Ron
