The hale omnigaddrum o Robert Tannhill's poems an sangs is up on ma wabsteid
at lang an last! I thocht it as weel tae gie it a mention here seein's
somebody (kenna wha) asked efter warks bi Tannahill on Lowlands-L some
months back. The'r sicna fouth o stuffrie thare that it's no been sae aesy
tae set it aa oot in a wey that lats ye gae richt for a sang or poem that
ye'r efter - it's a compromise atween the poems bein quick dounladit an aesy
socht.

The'r a section o verses bi Robert Airchibald Smith an aa - the fiddler that
aften made Tannahill's airs.

A dout oo can leuk forrit tae a fair nummer o "new" sangs kythin on the
American-Scots folk circuit nou! :(

The whole collection of Robert Tannhill's poems and songs is up on my
website at long last! I thought it best to bring it up here since someone
(don't know who) inquired about works by Tannahill on Lowlands-L some months
ago. There's so much material that it hasn't been easy to set it all down in
a way that would let you link straight to a song or poem that you're looking
for - it's a compromise between quick downloads and easy searching.

There's a section of verses by Robert Archibald Smith as well - the
violinist who often composed Tannahill's airs.

We should be able to look forward to a fair number of "new" songs on the
American-Scots folk circuit in the near future! :)

YE WOOER LADS WHA GREET AN’ GRANE.
Air - Callum Brogach.

YE wooer lads wha greet an’ grane,
Wha preach an’ fleech, an’ mak’ a mane,
An’ pine yoursels to skin and bane,
   Come a’ to Callum Brogach:
I'll learn you here the only art,
To win a bonnie lassie’s heart;
Just tip wi’ gowd Love’s siller dart,
   Like dainty Callum Brogach.

I ca’d her aye my sonsie dow,
The fairest flower that e’er I knew;
Yet, like a souple spankie grew,
   She fled frae Callum Brogach:
But soon’s she beard the guinea ring,
She turn’d as I had been a king,
Wi’ "Tak my hand, or ony thing,
   Dear, dainty Callum Brogach."

It’s gowd can mak’ the blind to see.
Can bring respect where nane would be,
And Cupid ne’er shall want his fee
   Frae dainty Callum Brogach:
Nae mair wi’ greetin’ blind your een,
Nae mair wi’ sichin’ warm the win’,
But hire the gettlin for your frien’,
   Like dainty Callum Brogach.

- Robert Tannhill
