Dear Lowlanders,
Does any of you know the origin of the Low Saxon/Low German word
_Silkendei_ (_silken-dai_ ['zIlkN,da.I]) and/or if there are any cognates
in other languages? Apparently, this word is only used in the dialects of
the Elbe Marshes, assumedly also in Ms. Kramer-Freudenthal's dialect of
Olland (Dat Ole Land/Das Alte Land). Might it be of Frisian origin?
Meaning: a small room set apart from the center of a house, often used as a
retreat or for convalenscence.
Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
