I guess it has been discussed in this list before, sorry I forgot what was
said at the time:

1. Is there a proper way to include phonetical symbols in HTML texts? As
little "images in gif or jpg format" eventually? For that case, does anybody
know where to find a collection of this kind of images?

2. Can one find somewhere a set of phonetical symbols for Word 2000?

3. Is there somewhere a translation of the symbols below, used by Ron, in
the Lowlands list, to the international phonetical alphabet?

Roger,

The ASCII-phonetic system Ron was using is SAMPA, at
http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/sampa/home.htm

I believe John Tait used an IPA system extensively in producing his
Shetlandic translation of Mark's Gospel, so he might be able to enlighten
us.

I don't know of an available set of gifs representing phonetic symbols in
HTML, although it sounds like an intriguing project that I wouldn't mind
trying myself if I weren't already bogged down in projects right now!
Perhaps if the texts you have in mind aren't too large, an alternative would
be to scan in the full text or create it with the IPA system for Word I
mentioned above, and convert it to a gif with a white or transparent
background? Possibly embedded fonts could be used with the Word IPA system,
though I'm not sure how widely these are supported by browsers at the
moment.
