><This brings me to the topic I wanted to discuss today, namely to the
>videotape I mentioned a while ago. On it there are some snippets of North
>Frisian being used in schools.
>
>
>All in all, I found this series very informative and well presented. I
>hope that a similar series, including information about Netherlands
>Fryslân, will be produced for international distribution.>

>I too have copies of the videos (available from Omrop Fryslan in
>Leeuwarden, Fryslan) although mine lack the Dutch subtitling. I
>agree wholeheartedly with Ron that it makes fascinating viewing.
>When I was in Groningen earlier this year I managed to interview
>Oebele on some of the points he raised, and found him an erudite and
>affable man, with carefully thought out opinions. That interview
>will be made public in some form or other soon. (I also managed to
>chat on a couple of occasions with Henk Wolf whose enthusiasm and
>knowledge knows no bounds!) Maybe we can collectively convince OF to
>go internatrional with the videos.

This morning I received a new volume of the Dictionary of Flemish
dialects.

Flemish is to be understood in a (correct) narrow sense (Brabantish and
Limburgish are not included, these region groups have their own
dictionary in progress)

This very volume has an even narrower scope though: it only covers the
"coast line" of Northern France, Belgian Flanders and Zeeuws Vlaanderen.

The title:
Woordenboek van de Vlaamse dialecten,
(II) Niet agrarische vaktalen
Aflevering 7: De zeevisser,
(by Roxane Vandenberghe and others - basically from Ghent University)
clothbound, LXXI + 818 pp
ISBN 90-74273-14-9

BEF 1500 EURO 37.18
Distribution "Drukkerij G. Michiels N.V.", Rietmusweg 96, B 3700
Tongeren, Belgium

Roger
