For the first time ever, a calendar in Low German
("Platt") and English

What unlikely trait connects citizens in Grand Island,
Nebraska, Davenport, Iowa, and Northern Germany?  The
Low German language and, through their ancestors, a
little piece of history in common.  This new calendar
for 2002, with colored photos, provides a new bridge
between Northern Germany and the United States,
between Low German and English and came about from the
efforts of the America/Schleswig-Holstein Heritage
Society (ASHHS).

This calendar is one of a kind.  It contains pictures
from the old and new homelands with linguistic and
historical fun facts on every page.  Each month
presents a tiny glimpse at Nothern Germany and the
United States.  Every day gives a new Low German word
with its English translation.  Both North German and
American holidays and historical anniversaries are
included.

The calendars can be ordered by sending a request and
personal check payable to:
ASHHS, P.O. Box 506, Walcott, IA 52773-0506.  The cost
is $10.00, which includes a $5.00 tax-deductible
donation to the ASHHS Endowment Fund.  Shipping and
Handling is an additional $2.50.
