Margaret, I haven't come across this form before.  However, it doesn't
surprise
me all that much.  Where in N. Germany was this?

_Heini_ must come from (High) German _Heinrich_.  My theory is that _Hinni_
comes from Low Saxon (Low German) _Hin(d)rik_ in a vowel-raising dialects
(with
the equivalent _Hen(d)rik_ > *_Hennie_ in other types of dialects). (Cf.
Dutch
_Hendrik_) The derivation /ai/ > /i/ is impossible, in my opinion.

This would not be applicable to _Reinhard_ (G. ['raInha.rt], LS
['ra%Inha:t]),
because it always has a diphthong, either /ei/ or /ai/, being derived from
_Raginhart_, usually "translated" as 'wise council(lor)'.  A nickname
derived
from it should thus also have a diphtong.
