Subject: Help Wanted re Lowland Scots

In the Edinburgh area a person always ready for a joke or some fun is known
as 'Right galluss (or galliss) '. Can anyone clarify the origin of this word
which I can only associate with the far from funny gallows ? Is it of
Scandinavian or Flemish origin ?
Regards
Tom
