From: "David Wilson" <djj.wilson at virgin.net>
Subject: A Call for Plays in Scots

Hullo,

I thought this might be of interest to some of you. Although it's
billed
as "Celtic Language Season", Finsborough Theatre (London) are also
seeking
plays in Lowland Scots......

CELTIC LANGUAGE SEASON - JUNE 25TH-JULY 20TH 2002

We are primarily looking for works that are wholly or mainly in
Welsh,
Irish, [Scottish] Gaelic, Cornish, Breton or Manx. We will, however,
consider Celtic drama in English translation and plays in [Lowland]
Scots.
The season will be produced by Finborough Theatre Director, Neil
McPherson.
We hope to make this season an annual event."

PERFORMANCES

We are trying to present as much work as possible in the four weeks
available - June 25th-July 20th 2002.

The season will consist of:

4 main productions - preferably one each in Cornish, Welsh, Irish
and
Gaelic which will run for a week (six performances - Tuesday to Sunday),
getting in and out on a Sunday evening. The exception is the last show
which
will play five erformances and close on Saturday evening.

4 platform productions which will run for half a week (four
performances -Thursday to Sunday). The exception is the last show
which will play five performances and close on Saturday evening. The
platform slots are limited to one hour including any get-out time and
must
work around the main production, using their lighting and set. The
platform
slot is best suited to plays with a small cast and a very minimal set,
poetry readings, recitals, lectures etc.

Alternatively, if a company can present more than one full length
play
in repertoire over their week's slot, the extra play(s) will replace the
platform slot for that week.

Late Night, Early Evening and Lunchtime productions are all
possible.

We would also be interested in suitable productions that can afford
to
hire the theatre in the normal rental slots immediately before and after
the
season, which will enable us to increase the impact of the season. A
discount on the normal rent would be possible in the August slot.

FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS

All productions will be on a 70/30 split of the gross box office
takings - 70% to the Company, 30% to the Theatre. Providing that the
contract is honoured, there will be no contras.

TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS

As get-in time is short, the Finborough Theatre will provide a basic
lighting rig providing general cover with a limited number of lanterns
available for specials. Main shows - working together with the platform
show - may rig their own designs, providing they restore the basic rig
themselves at the end of their run. The theatre will be a black empty
space.
Again, main shows - working together with the platform show - may paint,
providing they restore the theatre to black at
the end of their run.

In addition to the Technical Specification listed above, a minidisc
player will also be available.

FUNDRAISING

We are currently raising funding for the season. Any funds raised will
be
allocated as follows:

Season Leaflet Printing and Design ?500.00
Leaflet Distribution ?500.00
Press Agent ?000.00
Any funds raised in addition to these allocations will be split equally
between the Finborough Theatre and all the companies
performing in the season.

PRESS AND MARKETING

We will produce and distribute a leaflet for the season, as well as
the
press releases and listings. We would be grateful for information on any
specialised publications, groups or organisations that you feel would be
useful to contact. You should bear in mind that the short runs mean that
reviews cannot necessarily be counted on for selling tickets, and the
season's sales will depend primarily on advance publicity and word of
mouth.
