Yes, "cob" seems to have been very widely used in the sense
of "to fight" - the Scottish National dictionary gives it
as an Old English word and leaves it at that.

I couldn't figure out what "penninc" means so I don't really
know what you're getting at here, sorry - I only know a few
languages well, and Dutch and Flemish aren't amongst them!
