I'm confused but I think it corresponds to what we called in my
Limburgish (from Vliermaal): krieskoek.
I had no idea where the "kries" is coming from.
I remember it in both hard and soft form.
When soft we called "stattele (Dutch: schoenveters"; shoelace,
shoestring) since it had about that form.
It was black but dark brown when dissolved in water.

One also could buy sweet wood to chew, but I never associated that with
our black krieskoek, and I'm not sure there is any link.
I checked in some West-Limburgish dictionaries (quotes abbreviated):

- 1 - André Stevens (Tongeren)

krïskoek
...  1. drophout, zoethout (glycyrrhiza glabra);
..2. (zwarte) bolhoed (spotn. en bijn.)
... z.o.o. kalïshòut, klïshòut
- mèt krïskoek mökdë dë kéndër kriskoekwô'tter
- nau dat zjië oerrë krïskoek hèt, gó'n ich éns vryùge mèt wôo rêech as
dë héer zich mèt mën hüu bëmoeit
Et. Lat. liquiritia > Lakritse (Du.) > krits > kris met toevoeging van
koek

krïskoekhòut
... drophout

krïskoeksênt
... nagebootst centje van drophout

krïskoekwô'ttër
... dropwater, dropsap

- 2 - Castermans e.a. (Diepenbeek)

kriessap
  drop

kriessapmenneke
  zwart dropje
  syn.: kriesmenneke

kriessapstek
  zoethout

- 3 - Oris (Kortessem)

krissap
  kalissesap

waren)

men zegt ook klissap - klissapwetter
