Did the same when I was a child in Drenthe'; my grandfather would bring
the
what we called "lekkeris"; the fun was in the anticipation and shaking
indeed
and the smell was quite delicious. Roeliena Van Zanten

All this talk about _sugarelly wa'er_ and other concoctions involving
licorice and water has reminded me that in German, too, I have heard of
_Lakritzwasser_ ("licorice water"), or _Lakrisswassa_ as we Hamburg
tykes would say in Missingsch dialect (which was as close as we city
kids were allowed to get to Low Saxon in public). I assume it was the
same thing as what our other Lowlandic friends know. However, just like
Sandy, I had no first-hand experience with it. I probably would have
disliked it anyway, because I liked my licorice black and strong and
concentrated.

It ought to be *_Lakritzwater_ in Low Saxon (Low German). Does anyone
know if this is used?

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
