It is important that this expressions (at least in Swedish) are only
used when something is offered! For example somebody ar the table is
asking for the butter, the one who is handing it over says "var så god".
If you are begging for somthing you would use "var så snäll" (in Low
Saxon: "wees so leev"). "Var så god" is not used if begging for
something!
Just thought to make that clear... :)
