Hallo All

I believe it was Kevin who asked how to say "Happy Birthday" in Frisian:
in any case, I'm sure he initiated the conversation by asking:

> my students asked me where the statement "Herzlichen Glückwunsch
> zum Geburtstag" came from in Hochdeutsch. I wondered how you say
> that in the various languages from our list and if anyone knows why
> Germans say "hearty (luck)wish for your birthday" whereas we say
> in English, simply, (have a)"happy birthday"?

Just in case no one else answered, the term we (as in my family and
friends) use is "Noflike Jierdei."

Best,
Andrys Onsman
