I'm not sure that I fully understand what is meant by 'colonial'
in the context of its relation to Low Saxon. But, I am well
aware that both 'g' and 'j' are heard in various Low Saxon
dialects as well as in some Standard German in Germany.
Who is not familiar with the widely-quoted Berliner German
sentence, "Eine jut jebratne Jans ist eine jute Jabe Jottes"?
