Lowlanders,

There's a new book on ScotsteXt, and this one would certainly
be one of my "Desert Island Books"!

It's "Auld Saws in New Scots Sangs", by T. Whyte Paterson.
Paterson has had the idea of choosing a Scots Proverb, or
sometimes a quote from the Book of Proverbs in the Old
Testament, and writing a poem to illustrate the usage.

He does it rather well, usually by telling the story of some
character of his acquaintance: read about Tam Elder's "Old
Hundred Thrice", Kirsty Laing's method of choosing a husband,
and how Dan McNee the prophet learned too keep his mouth shut!
