Er zitten elementen in van een Noord-Hollands Sint Maarten-liedje, dat ik
hevig zong als kind, om snoep te krijgen, en nog steeds op 11 november aan
de deur hoor zingen:
Sinte Sinter Maarten,
de koeien dragen staarten,
de koeien dragen horens,
de kerken dragen torens,
de torens dragen klokken,
de meisjes dragen rokken,
de jongens dragen broeken,
de ouwe wijven schorteldoeken.

En dan is er nog dat bekende rijmpje uit de oude doos:
Handje klap, gaat naar de markt,
koopt een koe etc.

My mother used to sing a variant of this song (in Dutch), but I cannot
remember
the exact words. As far as the melody is concerned. I can only remember the
melody of the refrain, but cannot write it down - sorry ;-].

mother used to sing it, popped into my head:

I hope it's permitted to give some German
children songs. I would also be interested in
knowing whether there also exist Low Saxon
version of them.

That version that we sing in my family is:

Wie ein Fähnchen auf dem Turme

Another one is:

steigt so hoch man sieht es kaum,
hüpft von Ast zu Ästchen,

By the way, Godewind, a
German band singing mostly in Low Saxon
sing a slightly different version of one
of the LS songs mentioned:
