Another quote (if it is not too much off the track), from Steven Stupp :
I am writing you concerning my recently published book, "Beneden de
Zeespiegel: Een Amerikaan in  Holland" (Uitgeverij Balans, 2003), which may
be of interest to you.

Reminds me of the book (printed in 1903) 'Holland of today', written by an
American artist who travelled the Netherlands extensively with his Dutch
friend.  It is entertaining and is full of reproductions of the artist's
paintings (which is why it was given to me as a present).  Having grown up
in a village with a traditional costume, I now collect anything to do with
costumes: dolls, books, even have some costumes.  Got a big doll, bought in
Kampen.  Her costume isn't in any of my books, so it must be very local.
Apart from the language, costumes are also a part of our heritage...
In the past we have also visited some 'Spakenburg Days', when everyone wears
their local costume.  Even saw a fashion show of the development of this
costume through the ages.

Hi, Jannie!

The second part of your posting (which I separated because topics are
supposed to be kept separate) is definitely not irrelevant to this list.  As
you correctly said, costumes are part of heritage (i.e., culture), and
culture is a part of this list.  We have briefly mentioned costumes a few
times in the past.  I personally would love this to be expanded.  It's a
very rich topic and leads to many other cultural and linguistic threads.
