Hi,
I had purchased a Platt word book while in Leer.  All my relatives came from
the Leer and Aurich areas - the book you mention is probably something I
could use and I've found people in the Leer/Aurich areas speak as we do here
in East Central Illinois.  I was there in June 2003 and felt like I was home
and they understood us very well.  They're always amazed that we still speak
the language as well as we do.  We are also learning to read the Platt and
I'm able to become more proficient in it the more I read.

Hello,
All my Gt Gt and Gt Grandparents came from Ostfriesland except for one who
was from Holstein.  One of my Gt Gt Grandparents, Wattje Wattjes Ihler came
from Timmel/Neuefehn.  Others came from Holtrop, Wiesens, Oltmansfehn (the
village was named for my GGG Grandfather Oltman Leenerts), Firrel, Weene,
etc.  Maybe we can talk on the telephone sometime and I can tell you all
about our area of Ostfriesians here or I can also write you personally.

   I am delighted to know that you keep our language alive in your corner of
North America.  Keep it up, and hang on to it!  Perhaps sometime you could
tell us a bit about your dialect (also from where in Europe it came) and
about your community there in Illinois.  I would be very grateful to you for
it, as no doubt other Lowlanders would be.
   Did your ancestors come from Eastern Friesland?  (Then you’d say _taal_
instead of _spraak_ for ‘language’.)
