Folks,

Thanks to Manfred Haake (manfred at hprg.de), you can now send electronic
Christmas and New Year’s cards in Lowlands Saxon (“Low German”):
http://www.platt-card.de/xtra/
(http://www.platt-card.de/kaards_thumb/willkommen.htm). You can even *hear*
the cards when you click on them.

In case you wish to send a card or two to folks but are not sure you
understand, here is a bit of help from yours truly. The stuff in [ ] is my
transliteration into phonemically based non-German orthography, followed by
my translations.

Puppets dance,
In everyone’s house
Dances a mouse.

[Stayt dey kray Wynachten in d’n kley,]

If the crow stands in clover on Christmas
it will still stand in snow come Easter.

Dat Johr is narms so lang.

[Dat jaar is narms so lang.]
[Wynachten is jümmers tou kort.]

A year isn’t all that long (anywhere).
Christmas is always too short.

Already the New Year is standing before.
