Subject: Orthography

Criostóir,

Well as one who misspelled your name last time, I can
hardly give lectures on spelling! However, I'd
respectfully disagree.

Firstly, I'd write _realize_, _civilize_ etc myself,
as would a number of London broadsheets. In fact, this
is the original spelling (my 1948 Oxford dictionary
gives no other option), so it is British English (and
subsequent forms in other Commonwealth countries) that
have undergone the 'innovation'.

Secondly, _queuing_ cannot of course be an American
form, as the word _queue_ is absent in American
English.

If you look all the examples I gave up in the Oxford
English dictionary, you'll find them with no
preference given for one or the other.

There is, to me, no option on _programme_ vs.
_program_ in British English. A 'program' is
specifically a *computer* program, otherwise
_programme_ is the 'correct' British English spelling.

Best wishes,

=====
